A huge aspect of True Dinosaurs is fossil preservation. Each specimen we get to work with is rarer than gold. With rising interests in fossil collecting it is harder to keep track of one-of-a-kind specimens like the skin impressions we work with. That is why we started this project. To digitally preserve some of the rarest fossils in history so that anyone can download a copy of them from anywhere in the world. On top of that having the ability to utilize these skin patterns for all kinds of media only pushes paleo art further than ever before.
From Fossil to Digital Asset
Our process begins with a fossil, but not just any fossil, a skin impression.
We first photograph the impression and pull the detail from the rock using various software. From there we finalize the image as an alpha, using a black and white gradient that best preserves all the detail from the fossil. From there artists can use these new digital doubles of dinosaur skin in their works.
For feature films or personal projects, our dinosaur skin alphas are sure to enhance your work with real authentic dinosaur skin.
